I'm wondering if anyone can provide some informmation about this? Does the current version have voiceover? If so, to what extent (i.e: does it only read song titles, etc) as I am looking to purchase one for the gym and need something light and small instead of the clunky iPhone. Thanks in advance.
The nano does have voiceover and functions in a similar way to the iPod touch. Everything speaks.
For what it's worth, the iPod Shuffle also has voiceover. I'm just mentioning it because it's even smaller than a nano and works great for the gym. You don't have as much control over your music and it doesn't hold as much as a nano so that may be a deal breaker for you, but I love mine. I have mine loaded up with 450 of my favorite songs and a couple of playlists, including a workout playlist. You can easily change between playlists with the voiceover button and it announces song titles and artists on demand as well. I got mine as a gift and didn't think I'd use it much, but I was wrong. I use that little sucker all the time.
@Time Traveling Bunny What arm band do you use? I use an iPod Touch mainly so I can listen to a head banger metal playlist while working out. But now I have it clipped on my hip in its protective leather case. Always afraid it could slide off somehow when moving fast.
Anyway, thought from a fellow workout enthusiast?
I don't use an armband. If I'm using my iPod shuffle to work out. I just clip it on my collar. The shuffle is tiny (slightly larger than a postage stamp) and has a built in clip. When I use my iPod touch, I have a cool bluetooth headset that I use. I can just set the iPod somewhere safe on the machine and not have to fuss with wires. This works especially well on a rowing machine because it's hard to position a headphone cord where it doesn't interfere with the rowing stroke. The headset I use is the LG Tone. It is a unique design that does well for workouts. It's basically a flexible band that hangs around your neck. On each end, there is a small magnetic cup that holds the earbuds. Each bud is connected with just enough wire to get from your neck to your ears. There are nice tactile controls on the neck piece that allow you to adjust volume, play, pause and skip songs right from the headset. It works with phones as well, so you can answer calls from the headset too. The headset vibrates for incoming calls so you don't have to rely on hearing the phone ring in noisy environments. It sounds quite good for a headset, especially with the base boost feature turned on, and only costs about $45-50. It claims to be water resistant so sweat shouldn't be a problem. I've been sweating all over mine for 2 months and so far, so good. It's a little hard to describe, but hopefully that makes sense. Here's the info from Amazon.
LG Tone Bluetooth Headset
Thank you much.
This sounds realy good and would even be good when out on patrol on the Coast Guard boats. I hate hate hate having to ask for an exception, but a dangling headphone is an example of something out of regulation when in uniform.
I will consider this when the tax refund comes in.
Thank you all for responding. Just one more question for Time Traveling - does the LG Tone bluetooth headset support VoiceOver on the iPhone?
Yes. VoiceOver will be heard through the LG Tone.
